She was an outsider, a weirdo, and I felt that too."

Theroux's obsession with "Beetlejuice" extended to its star, Winona Ryder. "I thought she was the coolest person on the planet," he said. "Everyone related to or wanted to date Winona Ryder. She was like the ultimate goth princess." Theroux's admiration for Ryder continued into adulthood, leading to their eventual collaboration on the 2016 film "The Master."
